The Sorma Group started in Italy, with SORMA S.p.A., a manufacturer of packaging machines. Established in 1973, The Sorma Group has expanded over the years to provide sustainable packaging materials for the fruit and vegetable sector.
50 YEARS OF SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING EXCELLENCE
Operating for over 50 years, they have expanded to 10 production sites for a total of 105,000 square metres, 6 dedicated to the design and construction of machines and 4 specialised in printing, extrusion and the weaving of flexible packaging.
SORMAPEEL SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING
In 2019 Sorma invented the Sormapeel line of sustainable packaging. Since then they have managed to reduced plastic use in sustainable packaging in the fresh produce industry by 35% by replacing it with an equivalent quantity of renewable materials, FSC certified paper.
The innovation is given by a peelable band that allows, once the paper layer is separated from the internal PE or PP film, to recycle the mono-materials in their respective bins. To adopt these bands it is not necessary to change the packaging machines.

Sorma’s concept of sustainability packaging is linked to the development process, where resources, investments and technologies are synergistically focused on enhancing the future. Sustainability is a complex concept that, to be truly understood and correctly applied, must be divided into three guiding pillars: environmental, economic and social sustainability.
Sorma operate according to these three guiding principles with the ultimate goal of safeguarding the integrity of the planet and ensuring a better future for generations to come.
Sorma takes sustainable packaging seriously. Their range is specially designed following the principle of the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. In addition, all production processes are completely verticalised using the latest technologies that reduce the use of electricity for the same number of units produced. The group’s goal is to continue to reduce the weight of their sustainable packaging and increase the use of renewable energy up to 100 per cent.
